Hitachi CP-S840: Oldie but Goodie

The Hitachi CP-S840 is one of those old projectors that just keeps popping its head up every now and then, as if to say ‘I was a great projector then and I’m still a well crafted, reliable machine now.’ This projector came out a long time ago, in a world that was much different than it is now. Just how different was the projector world back in the late 1990’s? Well, let’s run down some of the specs on the Hitachi CP-S840.

The most obvious indicator that this projector was manufactured a while ago is the contrast ratio. The CP-S840 boasts a pitiful 200:1 contrast ratio. I think most people would have fits trying to watch a movie with this projector, but with that said, this unit is definitely geared towards office work and PowerPoint like presentations. The Hitachi CP-S840 also has a bunch of nifty features including a “freeze” function, that allows the user to hold any image on the screen until the next step in the presentation is needed. The CP-S840 enjoys an image aspect of 4:3 and a resolution of 800x600. These are specs are acceptable for most business presentations, but again not really capable of handling home video or television in high quality.

I might recommend buying this projector used, if you are a start company that is looking for a highly-capable unit to display presentations for potential clients.
